Warm-up with Master Mariusz
In the sample video above, Master Mariusz Steckiewicz shares a quick warm-up that challenges mobility and flexibility, then rapidly prepares you for a strong Taekwon-Do class. If you are short on time (or need something you can run in a tight space), this is a practical warm-up you can use straight away.
Instructor tip: run the general warm-up first, then choose 2-3 specific drills that match your lesson focus (patterns, sparring, fundamental movement, or power development). Keep it simple, keep it flowing, and have students move with intent.
What this warm-up focuses on
This approach begins with general movement to raise temperature and loosen the body, then moves into more specific preparation – the kind that helps students feel ready to move sharply and confidently. It is especially useful for instructors who want a structured warm-up without needing lots of equipment.
Key benefits
- Improves mobility and flexibility through controlled, progressive movement.
- Prepares the body for faster, more explosive techniques without rushing the build-up.
- Easy to scale for mixed ages and ability levels.
- Simple to plug into any class plan – colour belts through to black belts.
How to use it in your next class
If you teach multiple classes per week, this warm-up can become a reliable foundation. Use the general portion as your consistent baseline, then rotate the specific drills depending on what you are teaching that day. Students appreciate the familiarity, and you still get variety where it counts.
Coaching cues that make the difference
- Quality over speed: smooth, controlled movement first – then gradually build intensity.
- Posture stays tall: avoid collapsing through the hips or rounding through the shoulders.
- Breathing stays calm: keep students relaxed so they do not tense up too early.
- Range of motion grows: start small, then increase range as the body warms.
