“Let Go” Small Group Patterns training with Master Hutton

Let Go – Small Group Patterns Session

In the sample video above, Master Hutton works with two senior colour-belt students from Paul M Papakura – Helen Khiev (13) and Layla Allen (17) – on pattern movements and the mindset needed to improve.

Session theme

So what I’m really saying to you guys is: “Let go. Let go.”

The session begins with quality first – balance, line of motion, posture, and clean mechanics – then gradually builds in intensity. As the pace increases, the focus shifts from trying to control every moment to releasing tension so the movement can accelerate naturally.

Key coaching point

Holding on limits movement. Letting go allows speed and power to flow.

The session includes tuition of the red belt pattern Hwa-Rang, movement by movement.

Towards the end, Master Hutton demonstrates how speed and power are generated from efficient mechanics, timing, and relaxation – then pushes the girls physically so they can feel the difference under pressure.

A standout moment comes after the training. Master Hutton walks the girls over to their parents and has a straight, heart-to-heart conversation about attitude, training with friends, and the expectations that come with that. It is a timely reminder that talent alone does not take you very far.

  • A practical approach to improving pattern movements without over-tensing.
  • How relaxation links directly to speed and power.
  • A valuable lesson on attitude, consistency, and making the most of your opportunities.

Quote from Master Hutton

“Talent, potential – people throw it away every single day.”
