Warm-Up, Stretching and Strength

A good warm-up does more than raise your body temperature. It prepares your joints, timing, balance, and movement quality for the demands of Taekwon-Do – and it can make the difference between training well and collecting avoidable niggles over time.

In this TKD Coaching release, Sanna Rantasaari (physiotherapist and 5th degree black belt) explains how to approach warm-up, stretching and strength in a practical, Taekwon-Do specific way. The goal is simple: help you train with better readiness, more confidence, and fewer setbacks.

In the preview video above, Sanna demonstrats some of the exercises taught in this video course,  recorded as part of the ITF Patterns Unleashed online programme, which TKDCoaching has partnered with.

Warm-up, stretching and strength for Taekwon-Do

This course helps you build a clearer framework for how these three areas fit together, so you are not guessing from session to session, or copying generic routines that do not match what Taekwon-Do actually requires.

  • How to structure a warm-up that prepares you for kicking, patterns, sparring, and conditioning
  • How to think about stretching – what it is for, and how to apply it sensibly
  • Strength principles that support stability, control, and long-term joint health
  • Practical ways to stay consistent with training while reducing avoidable injury risk

If you teach, this topic becomes even more valuable. A simple, repeatable approach to preparation and conditioning can lift the quality of your classes while helping students train more safely and confidently.

Course format

The full course is broken into nine videos, so you can work through the content in manageable pieces whenever you have time. It is designed to be useful whether you are returning from a break, building flexibility and strength steadily, or aiming to keep your training sustainable for years to come.
