Stretching exercise with Master Mariusz

Warm-up with Master Mariusz

In this warm-up session, Master Mariusz Steckiewicz focuses on preparing the body for explosive, powerful movement suitable for higher-grade ITF Taekwon-Do training. While many practitioners may not have the space to run full patterns—especially when training at home—Master Mariusz demonstrates how to warm up the essential components instead of the full sequence.

The emphasis of this session is on activating the muscles needed for strong, dynamic Taekwon-Do techniques. Rather than discussing minor details such as exact height or angle, Master Mariusz highlights what truly matters: expressing power. Taekwon-Do techniques must be fast, explosive and purpose-driven, and the warm-up should prime the body accordingly.

To build this explosiveness, he introduces simple but highly effective drills. One of the key elements is jumping work, beginning with jumping push-ups to wake up the upper body in an explosive manner. Practitioners can choose their level—performing them on the floor for maximum challenge, or against a wall if their strength, space or physical condition requires a lighter option. The aim is to push with full power each time, even when performing only a small number of repetitions.

This warm-up gives instructors practical ideas they can adapt for their own classes, ensuring students are mentally and physically prepared for powerful performance whether training patterns, sparring or technical drills.
