Patterns are the lifeblood of ITF Taekwon-Do. This sections showcases our TKD Pattern Videos coached by some of the world’s top expert coaches.
In December 2020 the ITF Hosted an On-line Technical Seminar.
Due to technical problems, we ended up doing the session LIVE so didn’t use the videos we have prepared.
So some of the videos I prepared that didn’t end up being used, and these are available for Premium Members to watch.
We are proud to present two of our ITF PATTERNS UNLEASHED videos with Master Lylian Doulay.
In the first video you will find out the training secrets of world-class competitor Lylian Doulay on how he prepares for his patterns performance.
Master Doulay takes us through some great warm ups for patterns, drills to help with the difficult kicks in Taekwon-Do patterns, plus sone excellent balance and strengthening work with the use of bands.
The second video focuses on getting higher kicks for patterns.
If getting the most out of your pattern performance is important to you, then you will benefit greatly from this video.
As well as learning some of the finer technical points of Dan-Dun, Won-Hyo, Choong-Jang, Eui-Am and Juche, Master Hutton works on how to maximise your patterns in general.
This includes using both arms correctly, maximising stances and a host of tips to help with kicking.
Here is the second coaching session with the creator of TKD Coaching – Master Paul McPhail.
Master McPhail is one of four members of the ITF Technical Committee, and in this video he coaches World Champion Mr Mark Trotter through the 4th dan pattern Moon-Moo tul.
The video finished with Mr Trotter performing the pattern.
In this video Mr Trotter takes 13 year old junior black belt Carter Hall through Toi-Gye pattern step by step.

For 3rd Degree Black Belts – Yoo-Sin Coaching Session
Joong-Gun is the blue belt pattern and is quite a step up from previous forms. It contains a number of difficult techniques, changes of stances, slow motion movements and more.
If you are a blue belt or above you will get a lot of benefit from this lesson with Grand Master Lan Kim Ung, as he takes Niketa Wells through Joon-Gun step by step.
3rd Degree Black Belts – Choi-Yong Tul Coaching Session now live.
Sam-il is the first pattern learnt at 3rd degree level, and a favourite of many due to it’s beautiful flow and inclusion of some interesting kicks such as sweeping kick and twisting kick.
This video is a more casual session where Mr Trotter takes Melissa Timperly through the pattern giving tons of valuable hints and tips, in particular for tournament performance. Even if you don’t know the pattern you will pick up lots of kicking advice and general ways to improve your pattern technique.

4 Direction Punch (Saju Jirugi) and 4 Direction Block (Saju Makgi) are fundamental exercises for the beginner (white belt). They are both requirements for grading from 10th gup (white belt) to 9th gup (Yellow Stripe).
This video shows double world Champion Roisin Giles demonstrating the movements with a few of the key points highlighted.
