Teaching the Flying High Kick
Teaching the Flying High Kick
The Flying High Kick is one of Taekwon-Do’s most recognisable techniques — a dynamic blend of timing, elevation, coordination, and confidence. In this session, Mr Brendan Doogan breaks down the key components that allow both instructors and students to successfully understand, practise, and eventually master this powerful technique.
This class focuses on building the essential foundations first: the approach, the take-off, the chamber, and the point of contact. Mr Doogan explains how to teach students to generate height safely, how to maintain body alignment in the air, and how to land with balance and control. His step-by-step teaching method ensures that learners are not simply copying the movement, but understanding the mechanics behind it.
For instructors, this session provides practical coaching cues, drills that build progressive confidence, and common corrections that help students overcome barriers — such as insufficient lift, poor chambering, or lack of commitment during the jump. You’ll also gain insights into how to structure a lesson so that students develop explosive leg power and correct flight trajectory without compromising safety.
If you are looking to improve your own Flying High Kick or want to teach it more effectively in class, this video will give you a complete set of tools to elevate your coaching and skill development.
