Instructors’ Update Course

Instructors’ Update Courses are an important part of maintaining consistent standards across clubs. In New Zealand, instructors are expected to attend an update course every two years, and assistant instructors (and other regular helpers) can also attend with the instructor’s permission.

This video features the 2018 Instructors’ Course delivered around the country by Grand Master Paul McPhail and Master Mark Hutton. The course covered practical teaching methods, coaching points, and the small details that make a big difference to class quality and technical consistency.

In the sample video above, you will get a quick look at the tone of the course and the type of material covered. Full access to the complete course is available to TKDCoaching Premium Members.

Instructors’ Update Course (Premium)

Who this course is for

  • Instructors who want a structured refresh on teaching and coaching fundamentals
  • Assistant instructors developing confidence, clarity, and consistency
  • Senior students who regularly help with classes and want better coaching cues

What you will get from it

  • Clear reminders on the fundamentals that keep classes safe, consistent, and effective
  • Coaching cues and teaching approaches you can apply immediately
  • Practical guidance for running better warm-ups, skill progressions, and partner work
  • A useful reference point for maintaining alignment across multiple instructors

A quick note about video quality

This Wellington course was filmed by one of the instructors, so the audio and video quality is not optimal. Even so, the content is clear enough to follow and the teaching value is well worth it, especially if you have limited access to in-person instructor development.

Final thought

If you are building a stronger instructor team, this course is a solid reference. Watch it once for the big ideas, then revisit it in smaller parts and pick one or two improvements to implement each week.
