Tradition to Application
Tradition to Application
In the sample clip above, Grand Master Peter Barber (9th Degree Black Belt, Perth, Australia) teaches a small group session with six lucky students, showing how traditional Taekwon-Do movements can be trained with purpose and then applied in a practical way.
This class begins with simple movement drills focused on mechanics, posture, balance, and intent. Grand Master Barber then builds directly from those basics into structured partner work, using methods similar to one-step sparring so the application stays clear, controlled, and realistic.
What you will get from this session
- Clean, repeatable movement drills you can use in your own classes
- A clear bridge from traditional training to practical partner application
- One-step style methods that keep technique honest without becoming messy
- Practical self-defence releasing techniques taught in a straightforward, efficient way
The final part of the session focuses on practical self-defence releasing techniques. These are taught with an emphasis on efficiency and composure, rather than complexity, and are especially useful for instructors who want simple, teachable progressions for students.
This Premium video is an edited session of over 40 minutes and is the third TKDCoaching Premium release featuring Grand Master Peter Barber.

Premium members: if you coach a lot of colour belts or developing black belts, this is a strong reminder that the best application often comes from doing the basics exceptionally well – then applying them with structure.
