Shoulder Mobility

Shoulder mobility is an area that becomes increasingly important as Taekwon-Do practitioners gain experience and age. Poor shoulder function can quietly limit technique quality, reduce power transfer, and increase injury risk – particularly in blocking, punching, and overhead movements.

In this Premium session, Expert Coach Mike Lowe delivers a practical and well-structured masterclass on shoulder mobility, combining clear theory with exercises that can be applied immediately by instructors and students alike.

In the sample video above, Mike demonstrates one of his flexibility exercises designed to improve mobility at the back of the shoulder. Over time, this exercise allows practitioners to extend their reach further up behind the body, restoring range of motion that is often lost through training, work, or daily posture.

Throughout the full session, Mike breaks shoulder mobility down into four key areas:

  • Coordination – teaching the shoulder to move smoothly and efficiently
  • Flexibility – restoring and maintaining usable range of motion
  • Strength – supporting the joint through controlled loading
  • Stability – ensuring the shoulder remains safe under dynamic movement

This balanced approach makes the session especially valuable for instructors working with senior students, competitors, or anyone managing shoulder tightness or recurring discomfort.

Shoulder health directly affects longevity in Taekwon-Do. This session provides instructors with practical tools to help students train harder, move better, and stay on the mat for longer.
