What is Self-Defence?
What does “self-defence” really mean in a Taekwon-Do context? In this premium lesson, Master Ian Campbell shares his philosophy around self-defence, shaped by decades of real-world experience and a strong focus on communication, awareness, and practical decision-making.
What Is Self-Defence?
Master Ian Campbell worked for the New Zealand Department of Corrections for 34 years and was selected to become a Control and Restraints Instructor and Master Trainer for Tactical Options. In that role, he helped design and facilitate communication and physical intervention strategies for coaching new frontline staff.
This video gives valuable insight into how Master Campbell approaches self-defence, including what it is (and what it is not), and how instructors can teach it in a way that is realistic, responsible, and relevant for everyday situations.
