How do you hold pads?
Carl van Roon explains exactly how to hold pads for sparring and the reasons why. Here as he shows the two main ways to position the pads for a Yop Chagi.
Hold pads at the right distance
That way the athlete gets use to relate the position of the body and the footwork to whether he can actually punch effectively or not.
Kick to the centre of the mass
Often though, we just grab a pad and ask our student to kick it, without thinking about the correct placement and distance for the target.
