Self-Defence Handbook by Master Paul McPhail, Mr Mark Banicevich and Mr Phil Thompson

This e-book outlines the concepts and practice of the gup self-defence syllabus for International Taekwon-Do in New Zealand. It is designed as a useful reference as well as a basic instructional manual for coloured belts. Students should be very familiar with the concepts in Part 1 of this handbook because they are potentially lifesaving. Students should be confident in defending against the attacks shown in Part 2 up to and including their own grade.

The content of this syllabus is targeted at teenagers and adults with much of the material easily adapted for children. It addresses the most important skills required for dealing with single unarmed opponents.

Self-defence was first introduced to our syllabus in the early 1990s and it has evolved since then. This handbook is the product of twenty years of development.
